Following the Cloud
Exodus 40:36-37 NKJV
"Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. [37] But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up."
We are here presented with a very beautiful picture of the involvement of God in the lives of His people. Moses had just finished the construction of the Tabernacle in every details as commanded by God. Then the Bible says,
" Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle."
This cloud represented the presence of God among the people. The cloud was a visible sign serving for multiple purposes among the people, notably, determining when the people should move and when they should settle down. If they moved when the cloud had not moved, they would exposed themselves to the hit of the desert during the day and the cold during the night. The same if they stayed and settled down while the cloud had moved. They had to monitor the movements of the cloud, representing the presence of God, the glory of God and the voice of God. Even if the cloud settle for a year, they will stay in one place. If is moved for a week, a month, they will have to move. Their safety or rest, was in the movement of the cloud, not in their feelings or opinions. They did not need to hear any voice somewhere, the cloud was the voice of God to them. The cloud was the guarantee of God's presence. They just had to follow.
Friends, one of the greatest challenges of the Christian life is being able to discern the moves and the voice of God and to follow Him. We must hear his voice to discern the seasons of slowing down in our busy schedules and the seasons of shifting with the Lord.
We are not to be running after time, deadline and so forth. But are to be running after God. I am not here saying that we are to be lazy or sluggish. No! Far from that. We are to discern God, stay with Him or move with Him. So, someone should not feel that because his age is advanced, he must marry or have a child at all cost. No! Rather seek to discern the season and the voice of God in your life. Someone should not feel that because he has been in a job or place just for one year he shouldn't move now, whereas God is giving him all signs to move. Or because he has been fifteen hears in the same city, he should now move to another city. What is God saying to you? The righteous move by faith and not by sight (2 Cor. 5:7), neither by the opinions of men or the comfort of a place. Hear Seek to hear God and to understand His will (Ephesians 5:15-17).
This word is for someone this morning: It is time to change gear, to shift from an old place to a new place, to shift from old friends into a new season. Can you hear the voice of God? Has the cloud moving been lifted? Abraham would have missed being the father of many nations if he did not discern the voice of God telling him,
"Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you." (Genesis 12:1 NKJV).
As he moved, you know the rest of the story.
Friends, hearing the voice of God should not be a difficult equation for children of God because Jesus Christ assures us that His sheep will hear His voice and they will follow Him. On several occasions He spoke about the Spirit of our Father who will tell us what to say and show us the way to go. Unlike the Israelites we have the inner witness or the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking directly in us. Our problems sometimes is that we allow the voices of other people and the comfort or conveniences of the flesh to interfere with the inner voice of God (Galatians 5:16-18).
Are you hearing God? Are you following the voice? Your peace, rest, refreshment, promotion and prosperity are in hearing and following His voice.

Suivre la Nuée !
Exode 40:36-37 LSG
« Chaque fois que la nuée s'élevait de dessus le tabernacle, les enfants d'Israël partaient en voyage. [37] Mais si la nuée ne s'élevait pas, ils ne partaient pas jusqu'au jour où elle s'élevait. »
Nous avons ici une très belle image de l'implication de Dieu dans la vie de son peuple. Moïse venait d'achever la construction du Tabernacle dans ses moindres détails, comme Dieu l'avait ordonné. Puis la Bible dit :
« Alors la nuée couvrit la tente d'assignation, et la gloire de l'Éternel remplit le tabernacle. »
Cette nuée représentait la présence de Dieu parmi le peuple. La nuée était un signe visible servant à de multiples fins parmi le peuple, notamment pour déterminer quand ils devaient partir et quand ils devaient s'installer. S'ils se déplaçaient alors que le nué était immobile, ils s'exposaient aux rigueurs du désert pendant la journée et au froid pendant la nuit. Il en était de même s'ils restaient et s'installaient pendant que nuée s'était déplacée. Ils devaient surveiller les mouvements de la nué, symbole de la présence, de la gloire et de la voix de Dieu. Même si la nuée se fixait pendant un an, ils resteront au même endroit. Si elle se déplaçait pendant une semaine, un mois, ils devait aussi se mettre en marche pendant tout ce temps. Leur sécurité, ou leur repos, résidait dans le mouvement de la nuée, et non dans leurs sentiments ou leurs opinions.
Ils n'avaient pas besoin d'entendre une voix quelque part : la nuée était pour eux la voix de Dieu. La nuée était la garantie de la présence de Dieu. Il leur suffisait de la suivre.
Mes amis, l'un des plus grands défis de la vie chrétienne est de savoir discerner les mouvements et la voix de Dieu, et de la suivre. Nous devons entendre sa voix pour discerner les périodes de ralentissement dans nos emplois du temps chargés et les périodes de transition avec le Seigneur. Nous ne devons pas courir après le temps, les échéances, etc. Mais nous devons courir après Dieu. Je ne dis pas ici que nous devons être paresseux ou nonchalant. Non ! Loin de là.
Nous devons discerner Dieu, rester avec lui ou avancer avec lui. Ainsi, personne ne devrait se sentir obligé de se marier ou d'avoir un enfant à tout prix parce qu'il est assez âgé. Non ! Cherchez plutôt à discerner la saison et la voix de Dieu dans votre vie. Nul ne devrait penser que, parce qu'il occupe un emploi ou un poste depuis un an seulement, il ne devrait pas déménager, alors que Dieu lui donne tous les signes pour le faire. Ou parce qu'il a passé quinze ans dans la même ville, il devrait maintenant déménager. Non ! Que vous dit Le Seigneur ? Le juste marche par la foi et non par la vue (2 Corinthiens 5:7), ni par les opinions des hommes, ni par le confort d'un lieu. Écoutez. Cherchez à entendre Dieu et à comprendre sa volonté (Éphésiens 5:15-17).
Ce matin, cette parole s'adresse à quelqu'un : il est temps de changer de vitesse, de passer d'un endroit ancien à un autre, de quitter ses anciens amis pour une nouvelle saison. Entendez-vous la voix de Dieu ? La nuée qui se déplace t- elle ?
Abraham aurait manqué d'être le père de nombreuses nations s'il n'avait pas discerné la voix de Dieu lui disant :
« Va-t'en de ton pays, de ta famille et de la maison de ton père, vers le pays que je te montrerai. » (Genèse 12:1). Et ayant suivi la voix de Dieu, vous connaissez la suite de l'histoire.
Mes amis, entendre la voix de Dieu ne devrait pas être une équation difficile pour les enfants de Dieu, car Jésus-Christ nous assure que ses brebis entendront sa voix et le suivront. À plusieurs reprises, il a parlé de l'Esprit de notre Père qui nous dira quoi dire et nous montrera le chemin à suivre.
Contrairement aux Israélites, nous avons le témoignage intérieur, la voix du Saint-Esprit qui nous parle directement. Notre problème vient parfois du fait que nous laissons la voix des autres et le confort de la chair interférer avec la voix intérieure de Dieu (Galates 5:16-18).
Entendez-vous Dieu ? Suivez-vous sa voix ? Votre paix, votre repos, votre réconfort, votre promotion et votre prospérité résident dans l'écoute et la mise en pratique de sa voix.
