Understand and Flow with the Holy Spirit (Part Six)
Romans 8:14
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
Today our focus is on the necessity to be filled with the Holy Spirit and how do we get filled with the Holy Spirit?
It is clear that there is no effective and genuine Christian life without the presence and leadership of the Holy Spirit. From our opening text we can deduce that there is no Christian life without the Holy Spirit.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
If one is not led by the Spirit, then he is not a child of God. We have to be led by the Spirit of God. Life in the Spirit is freedom from all forms of bondage of the law and of the flesh. Paul added that
“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,"Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” Romans 8:15-16
Life in the spirit is liberty from the constrain of the law and from the demands flesh. The Spirit cannot lead someone to gratify the flesh nor to live contrary to the Law of God.
“Galatians 5:16-18”
“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”
The secret to a peaceful and victorious Christian life is living by the Spirit of God. He helps us to experience and live the best life in God.
Apostle Paul explained in 2 Corinthians 3: 6b-8, 17
“for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?... 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
The Spirit of God also helps us in our prayer life.
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)
We are therefore advised to be filled with the Spirit (Eph 5:18). Here Paul was comparing the filling with the Holy Spirit with the filling with wine. When someone is filled with wine, he is drunk and controlled by the wine. In the same way, being filled with the Holy Spirit means being controlled or led by the Holy Spirit. When one is filled with wine, it will lead to debauchery, whereas when one is filled with the Spirit, it will lead to liberty, peace and effectiveness in the Kingdom of God.
“for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Rom 14:17)
How can one be filled with the Holy Spirit?
1. You can ask God to fill you with the Holy Spirit. Luke 11:13
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
2. Cultivate a habit of meeting with other believers in the presence of God regularly for the word and prayer.
In Acts 4:31, after the disciples prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”
Remember this was after they were baptized with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. So, one can have an experience of the infilling of the Holy Spirit as often as the Lord finds the need to empower us for ministry. You see, after that second experience, they went out and spoke the word of God with boldness. God alone knows how many Christians today need that boldness to preach the word and to serve.
Do you need boldness? Are you feeling helpless and empty? Ask God to visit you with His Holy Spirit. Take a retreat in God's presence to pray and to seek His face. You will never be the same again.

Comprendre et se laisser porter par le Saint-Esprit (Sixième Partie)
Romains 8:14
« Car tous ceux qui sont conduits par l'Esprit de Dieu sont fils de Dieu. »
Aujourd'hui, nous nous concentrons sur la nécessité d'être rempli du Saint-Esprit et sur la manière d'être rempli du Saint-Esprit.
Il est clair qu'il n'y a pas de vie chrétienne efficace et authentique sans la présence du Saint-Esprit. Notre texte d'ouverture nous permet de déduire qu'il n'y a pas de vie chrétienne sans le Saint-Esprit.
« Car tous ceux qui sont conduits par l'Esprit de Dieu sont fils de Dieu. »
Nous devons être conduits par l'Esprit de Dieu. La vie dans l'Esprit est la libération de toute forme d'esclavage de la chair et de la loi. Paul a ajouté :
« Car vous n'avez pas reçu un esprit de servitude, pour être encore dans la crainte, mais vous avez reçu un Esprit d'adoption, par lequel nous crions : Abba ! Père ! » 16 L'Esprit lui-même rend témoignage à notre esprit que nous sommes enfants de Dieu. » Romains 8:15-16
La vie spirituelle est une libération de la servitude de la loi et des désirs de la chair. L'Esprit ne peut conduire personne à satisfaire la chair ni à vivre contre la loi de Dieu.
Galates 5:16-18
«Je dis donc : Marchez selon l'Esprit, et vous n'accomplirez pas les désirs de la chair. 17 Car la chair a des désirs contraires à ceux de l'Esprit, et l'Esprit en a de contraires à ceux de la chair ; Or, ces choses sont opposées entre elles, afin que vous ne fassiez pas ce que vous voudriez. 18 Or, si vous êtes conduits par l'Esprit, vous n'êtes pas sous la loi.»
Le secret d'une vie chrétienne paisible et victorieuse réside dans la vie selon l'Esprit de Dieu. Il nous aide à vivre la meilleure vie en Dieu.
L'apôtre Paul explique dans 2 Corinthiens 3:6b-8, 17
« Car la lettre tue, mais l'Esprit vivifie. 7 Or, si le ministère de la mort, gravé sur des pierres, a été glorieux, au point que les fils d'Israël ne pouvaient fixer les regards sur le visage de Moïse, à cause de la gloire de son visage, gloire qui était passagère, 8 comment le ministère de l'Esprit ne sera-t-il pas plus glorieux ?... 17 Or, le Seigneur, c'est l'Esprit ; et là où est l'Esprit du Seigneur, là est la liberté. »
L'Esprit de Dieu nous aide aussi dans notre vie de prière.
«De même, l'Esprit nous aide dans nos faiblesses. Car nous ne savons pas ce qu'il convient de demander dans nos prières, mais l'Esprit lui-même intercède par des soupirs inexprimables.» (Romains 8:26)
Il nous est donc conseillé d'être remplis de l'Esprit (Éphésiens 5:18). Paul compare ici le fait d'être rempli du Saint-Esprit à celui d'être rempli de vin. Lorsqu'on est rempli de vin, on est ivre et dominé par le vin. De même, être rempli du Saint-Esprit signifie être dominé ou guidé par le Saint-Esprit.
Être rempli de vin mène à la débauche, tandis qu'être rempli de l'Esprit conduit à la liberté, à la paix et à l'efficacité dans le Royaume de Dieu.
« Car le royaume de Dieu, ce n'est pas le manger et le boire, mais la justice, la paix et la joie, par le Saint-Esprit. » (Romains 14:17)
Comment donc être rempli du Saint-Esprit ?
1. Vous pouvez demander à Dieu de vous remplir du Saint-Esprit. Luc 11:13
« Si donc, méchants comme vous l'êtes, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison le Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint-Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent ! »
2. Prenez l'habitude de vous rencontrer avec les autres chrétiens dand la présence de Dieu régulièrement pour la prière et la parole.
Dans Actes 4:31, après avoir prié, les disciples furent à nouveau remplis du Saint-Esprit.
« Après avoir prié, le lieu où ils étaient assemblés trembla ; et ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance. »
Rappelez-vous que cela se passa après leur baptême du Saint-Esprit dans Actes 2. On peut donc faire l'expérience de la plénitude du Saint-Esprit aussi souvent que le Seigneur ressent le besoin de nous donner la force d'exercer notre ministère. Car après cette seconde expérience, ils sont allés proclamer la parole de Dieu avec assurance. Dieu seul sait combien de chrétiens aujourd'hui ont besoin d'assurance pour prêcher la Parole et servir.
Avez-vous besoin d'assurance ? Vous sentez-vous impuissant et vide ? Demandez à Dieu de vous visiter avec son Saint-Esprit. Prenez une retraite spirituelle pour prier et chercher la face de Dieu. Et vous ne serez plus le même.
