The Silence of God at Your Worst Moment
Psalm 22:1-2 (ESV)
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish? My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, but I find no rest."
Why does God go silent when you need Him most? Why does the answer not come in the moment of greatest desperation? Why does the prayer you pray at your lowest point seem to hit the ceiling and fall back to the floor? You have cried out. You have begged. You have pleaded. And the heavens have been silent. Not distant. Not busy. Silent. You have wondered if He was listening at all. You have wondered if your prayer even reached Him. You have wondered if He was there.
David knew this silence. He cried: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?" (Psalm 22:1). The Hebrew word for "forsaken" is "azav", meaning to abandon, to leave behind, to let go. David felt abandoned. He felt let go. He felt forgotten. He cried out by day, and there was no answer. He cried out by night, and there was no rest. He was in the worst moment of his life, and God was silent.
But this psalm is not just David's. Jesus quoted these very words from the cross: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46). The Son of God experienced the silence of the Father. In His worst moment—bearing the sin of the world, enduring the wrath of God—He cried out into the darkness. And the heavens were silent. No voice came. No comfort arrived. No answer fell. He experienced the silence you experience. He knows the pain you know.
And yet, this is not the end. David's psalm does not end in despair. It ends in praise. He says later: "You who fear the Lord, praise him!... For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him" (Psalm 22:23-24). David did not stay in the silence. He did not give up. He kept crying out. He kept praying. And God heard him. The silence was not the end. The silence was the waiting room for the answer. And the answer came—in God's time, in God's way, for God's glory.
Prayer:
Lord, You are silent in my worst moment. I cry out, and You do not answer. I search for You, and I cannot find You. I wait for You, and You do not come. But You have been silent before. Jesus cried out from the cross. David cried out from the depths. And You heard them. You did not abandon them. Help me to trust that You hear me too. Help me to keep crying out. Help me to keep praying. Help me to wait for Your answer. And when it comes, let me praise You for Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
May the Lord who hears every cry strengthen you in the silence and remind you that He has not abandoned you. Have a blessed day.

Le Silence de Dieu à Ton Pire Moment
Psaume 22:1-2 (LSG)
Tu as crié. Tu as supplié. Tu as plaidé. Et les cieux ont été silencieux. Pas distants. Pas occupés. Silencieux.
Seigneur, Tu es silencieux à mon pire moment.
